Introduction

The Abrahamic religions comprise of the three religions -Judaism, Christianity and Islam and some others. The word ‘Abrahamic’ depicts as to how Abraham is kept in high regard in each of these religions (Abulafia 2019., n.pag). The religions were prevalent from the 4th to the 7th century. The Renaissance era was from the 14th to 17tth century. It means the rebirth of culture, art, politics and economics (Editors History.com 2018., n.pag) It was as well called as the ‘’Dark Ages’’ as this was the period when plague struck Europe and led to devastations and deaths (Editors History.com 2018., n.pag). Did the Renaissance period have an effect on Christianity? This is the question that is going to be answered in the paper. The purpose of writing this essay is to bring forth the happenings which occurred in the Renaissance era and the impact it had in the fields of art, culture etc. There were positive as well as negative effects of the rebirth in Europe, yet it was considered a turning point for the country. Abrahamic religions term was not correct and sounded confusing. A professor, Alan L. Berger, said that there were differences in the three religions and they were all separate and had no equal balance among them. These religions belong to the category of history and Abraham is depicted in different forms in each one of them (Hughes.,2012 n.pag). Rebirth is the meaning of the French word for Renaissance. This era witnessed a study of the Roman and Greek languages, new continents were discovered, commerce increased, the feudal system decreased and inventions were made like paper, printing, compass and gunpowder. This era depicted the growth of culture after a long period. Renaissance began in Italy in the 14th century and reached its peak in the 15th century. It spread to other parts of Europe in 16th and 17th centuries (Editors., History.com 2018 n.pag). This era saw the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg in 1440 which made it possible for The Bible and other religious books to be printed so as to reach the information to a lot of people. Humanism as well developed in this age (Szalay., 2016 n.pag).

Impact of Classical Art on Renaissance

Art took a turn for improvement as it was affected by classical art. Greek and Roman sculpture, painting and art were the inspiration for the artists and they showed the wonders of nature and human beings in their work. Paintings had a three-dimensional effect, were realistic and supported by the Churches and the rich people. One of these supporters were the Medici Family from a city called Florence and Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo etc. were under their patronship (Szalay.,2016 n.pag). Music as well saw the inventions of harpsichord and the violin which made the listeners emotional and the composers interlinked music and poetry (Szalay.,2016 n.pag). Literature witnessed a humanistic touch with tragedy and humor and the play written by Shakespeare was staged during this era. Hamlet was depicted as a literate Renaissance individual (Szalay.,2016 n.pag).
